Composition:
Scrap tires are made up of natural and synthetic rubber, carbon black, fillers, acetone extractables, and antioxidants.
Heating value:
Scrap tires have a heating value of 28,000–35,000 kJ/kg (12,000–15,000 Btu/lb).
Pyrolysis:
The pyrolysis process for scrap tires starts at 300°C and is nearly complete at 550°C. The process produces 30–65% oil, 25–45% char, and 5–20% gas.
